Maternal and Child Health provides prenatal and postpartum maternal and infant health education visits. Basic prenatal and postpartum education is provided in addition to screening for individual needs and risk factors, case management. Referrals to community resources are available as needed. Visits are available in-person, via phone or zoom for prenatal and postpartum women and families with infants up to one year of age. Visitation is provided by a nurse or social worker.
In addition, the Maternal Child Health staff provide a prenatal education series called Becoming a Mom®. These are six classes available at no cost to the participant in the Saline County area as well as surrounding communities. Our evidenced-based curriculum includes prenatal care, pregnancy health, signs and symptoms of preterm labor, infant feeding and breastfeeding basics, infant care, to include car seat safety and current safe sleep practices, and postpartum recovery to include perinatal mental health and family planning options. Afternoon and evening classes in-person & via Zoom are available Monday-Thursday, the 3rd full week of every month.
We are also excited to offer a Maternal Child Peer Support group to all mothers. The formation of this group is intended to be a peer social support resource to provide a non-judgmental safe space for all mothers where they can come together to share their lived experiences/challenges throughout motherhood as they receive peer support that focuses on needs, inclusion, and advocacy! In-person meetings are on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday evenings of the month.
Our in-house Spanish language interpreter is available for all services. Medical interpretation in other languages is available upon request.
